You can absolutely rock a bikini in your 40’s. Think you can’t rock a bikini past the age of 40? Think again: I’m 43 with 44 rapidly approaching and I look pretty fantastic in my two-piece. So stop thinking that you’re getting to a ‘certain age’ and start focusing on all the things that make you beautiful, confident and strong. Here’s how to get ready for bikini season:

Accept and love YOUR body.

If you’re legs are short they won’t ever be long. Stop beating yourself up, looking at every long-legged gazelle that walks by, wishing your legs can be like hers. They can’t. Short-legged women who are toned and in shape look great! Any body type is beautiful, and a bikini is sexy when at it’s strongest and most healthy.

Sorry, but you can’t skip class.

I am horrible about sticking to a regular workout schedule. I’m all over the place. It can be expensive to work out. ClassPass makes it easier to find classes near your office or home that you can squeeze in. Stop obsessing over food.

Here’s an easy guide: Eat what you want as long as the portion fits in your hands. How many potato chips can you fit in your hands? Put them in a cup and enjoy! Your mind wants chips. Your mind doesn’t want a bag of chips. I lost 10 pounds eating off of an Aladdin kiddie plate with pre-portioned sections I found at Target for $1.99. Portion control works, I promise!

It’s okay that you’re not Jennifer Lopez.

Sofia Vergara 41, works out. Jennifer Lopez is 45, and works out. Keep in mind that these women have trainers and nutritionists helping them. JLo is a mom to young twins who are taken care of while she works out for two hours a day. When you see Sofia Vergara’s picture on Twitter of her lying poolside in a thong, or JLo bumping booty with 24-year-old Iggy Azalea, understand these ladies have time every single day to dedicate to their fitness. You have to do what you can with your own schedule and lifestyle, and realize that your body is amazing, even if it doesn’t look like a celebrity’s.

You can work out… anywhere.

Did you drop something? When picking something up, squat. Park the car far and walk. Doing laundry? Raise the detergent bottle over your head five times. All of these mini bursts of workouts add up. Take the stairs or walk over to ask a colleague something instead of emailing. Drop to a plank during TV commercials instead of fast-forwarding through them. Think of ways to get in some fitness and make it a part of your day.

Strive to be healthy, happy and grateful. A positive vibe always looks great in a bikini!

      Too many people out there obsessing over being a size 2 when their body type and frame is more of a healthy solid size 6 to 8. Sizes means nothing it’s how you look and feel naked that matters! ha!
